In a recent announcement, American Airlines unveiled plans to introduce four new summer routes from its base at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Starting in June, the airline will operate flights to Jackson Hole (JAC), Bozeman (BZN), Calgary (YYC), and Spokane (GEG) throughout the peak summer season until the onset of September.
While Jackson Hole and Bozeman have been part of the airline's service from Charlotte in the past, the addition of Calgary and Spokane to the roster marks an inaugural venture for American Airlines out of its North Carolina hub. This expansion provides passengers with opportunities to explore some of North America's iconic outdoor destinations, such as Banff National Park near Calgary, Yellowstone National Park close to Bozeman, and Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole.
Here are the specifics of the new services:
Jackson Hole will see daily flights commencing on June 5th, with the Airbus A319 conducting the operations.
Bozeman will be serviced once a week on Saturdays, starting from June 8th, with the Boeing 737 handling the route.
Spokane will enjoy daily flights from June 5th, with the Airbus A321 taking the lead.
Calgary will also have a weekly service on Saturdays beginning June 8th, using the Boeing 737 for the journey.
American Airlines' short-haul mainline fleet primarily consists of both Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 family aircraft. As per the latest details from ch-aviation, the airline's fleet includes 303 Boeing 737-800s, 59 373 MAX 8s, 133 Airbus A319s, and 218 A321s, along with a widebody fleet of 141 aircraft comprising Airbus A330s, Boeing 777s, and Boeing 787s.
This newly announced expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance American Airlines' presence at its Charlotte hub. The airline plans to continue adding new services throughout the year, including flights to Tulum (TQO) starting March 24th and Vancouver (YVR) from June 5th.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport serves as a significant hub for American Airlines. Despite falling slightly to the tenth spot among the busiest airports in the country during 2022, it saw over 23 million passengers. The airport currently operates long-haul routes to international destinations like London Heathrow (LHR), Frankfurt (FRA), Paris (CDG), and Madrid (MAD) via American Airlines.
