Airline Introduces First-Ever Route to Northern Lights Hotspot, Unlocking a Magical Winter Escape
British Airways is set to embark on a new adventure, introducing its first-ever flight to Tromsø, Norway, starting December 1, 2024. This enchanting Norwegian city will become the airline's most northerly destination globally, offering travelers a unique opportunity to experience the captivating wonders of the Arctic Circle. Tromsø is renowned as one of the prime locations worldwide to witness the breathtaking aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights. Its central position within the northern lights' oval makes it an ideal spot for this mesmerizing natural phenomenon. With average winter temperatures ranging from 0°C to -5°C and abundant snowfall, Tromsø is a true winter wonderland, perfect for indulging in a variety of cold-weather activities such as skiing, mountaineering, and whale watching. Neil Chernoff, British Airways' Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed his excitement, stating, "Those who missed the northern lights in the UK need not worry! We are excited to welcome Tromsø to our route network – it is a growing winter leisure market thanks to its abundance of cold-weather activities, and we'll be the only premium carrier operating there from the UK. We've optimized the schedule for three- and four-night trips, which we know are perfect for a destination like this." In addition to the mesmerizing northern lights, Tromsø offers a unique Christmas experience. The city's picturesque Christmas market and its iconic Christmas tree are located in the main square, Stortorget, adding to the festive ambiance. For those seeking a comprehensive holiday package, British Airways Holidays offers a wide selection of options, including deposits starting from just £60 per person, flexible payment options, ATOL protection, a 24-hour helpline, and a 23kg baggage allowance as standard. As an example, British Airways Holidays offers a three-night stay on a room-only basis at the Comfort Hotel Xpress Tromso for £379 per person, traveling in January 2025. This package includes economy (Euro Traveller) return flights from London Heathrow and one checked bag at 23kg per person.
