Hike through history, spirituality, and breathtaking mountain beauty
Ideal for hikers, nature lovers, photographers, and spiritual travelers
Nestled in northern Lebanon below the Cedars of God and the town of Bsharri, the Kadisha Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as one of the most sacred and serene places in the Middle East. For centuries, this dramatic canyon served as a refuge for Christian monks, hermits, and mystics, many of whom carved churches and monasteries directly into the cliffs.
With its lush forests, hidden chapels, and winding trails, Kadisha is where spirituality and nature unite.
Follow ancient footpaths along the river at the bottom of the gorge. The trail is quiet, shaded, and lined with waterfalls, caves, wildflowers, and old stone bridges. Popular sections include:
Hawka to Qannoubine Monastery
Bsharri to Deir Mar Elisha
Tucked deep in the valley, this remote 14th-century monastery is carved into the cliffs and surrounded by cedar trees. It served as the seat of the Maronite Patriarchs for centuries.
Many caves in the valley still hold icons, frescoes, and altars left by reclusive monks. Some highlights:
Deir Mar Elisha (St. Eliseus Monastery)
Saydet Hawqa (Our Lady of Hawka)
Deir Qozhaya – which houses one of the world’s oldest printing presses in Arabic
