GOL Resumes International Flights, Expanding Connectivity Between Brazil and Uruguay
GOL Linhas Aéreas is excited to announce the return of its international services, reconnecting Brazil and Uruguay after a lengthy pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In November 2021, the airline kicked off its international comeback with flights to Montevideo International Airport (MVD) in Uruguay. Currently, GOL operates daily flights from São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.
Starting September 1, GOL will further enhance its services by increasing flight frequencies to 10 weekly departures, up from the current daily schedule. By October 1, the airline plans to operate two daily flights, bringing the total number of weekly flights between Brazil and Uruguay to 23.
The Brazilian market now sees three airlines flying between these two South American countries: Azul Linhas Aéreas, GOL, and LATAM. Azul currently operates a daily route between Porto Alegre and Montevideo, while LATAM runs nine weekly flights from São Paulo to Montevideo. GOL, in addition to its daily São Paulo-Montevideo service, will soon increase its frequency to twice daily.
Before the pandemic, there were 41 weekly flights between Brazil and Uruguay, according to Cirium data. Although Azul has already fully restored its pre-pandemic capacity, LATAM and GOL are still working toward full recovery. LATAM used to operate daily flights between São Paulo and Montevideo, in addition to three weekly flights from Rio de Janeiro to Montevideo. GOL’s pre-pandemic operations included three routes: Rio-Montevideo and São Paulo-Montevideo.
As the travel industry continues to recover, these updates reflect the ongoing effort to restore and enhance international connectivity in the region. Stay tuned for more updates from GOL as it expands its routes and strengthens its network in South America.
