Mayor secures 1K 'affordable' U.S. Open tickets for NYC residents
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has secured 1,000 affordable tickets for local residents to attend the upcoming U.S. Open, according to The Athletic.
Mamdani's initiative comes in response to concerns about surging ticket prices for the Grand Slam tennis tournament, which begins on Sunday.
The tickets for main-draw matches are priced at $100 and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to residents with a certified New York City ZIP code. The purchase window opens at 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday.
The available tickets cover matches through September 8, the first day of the men's and women's singles quarterfinals. They include seats at Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium.
The tickets cannot be resold through Ticketmaster. According to The Athletic, the cheapest resale seat available on opening day at Arthur Ashe Stadium was $344, while courtside seats were priced at more than $1,000.
Grounds passes with a face value of $65 were being sold for $263 on Ticketmaster, representing a 305% markup.
